What is a Network Address?

→ A network address is any logical or physical address that uniquely distinguishes a network node or device over a computer or telecommunications network. It is a numeric/symbolic number or address that is assigned to any device that seeks access to or is part of a network.

→It is more commonly known as IP Address.

→It is the numeric address of a computer connected to the network.

→It is a set of numbers, called as "octets" or "dotted decimal" notation, that identifies any network device.

                          

2 Types of IP Versions

1. IPv4 (IP version 4)- is the standard version.
2. IPv6 (IP version 6)- is the advanced version.

An IPv4 Address (Dotted-decimal notation)

Classes of IP Address

• Class A- 1 to 126
• Class B- 128 to 191
• Class C- 192 to 223
• Class D- 224 to 239
• Class E- 240 to 255

Note:

127- loop back function of a network.

Class D- is for multicast.

Class E- reserved for future or experimental purposes.

Creating IP Address

1.  In the left menu, click Network > Public IP.
2. Click Create.
3. Select whether you want to create an IPv4 or IPv6 address.
4. Select a server to which you want to assign the new IPv4 or IPv6 address. If you do not want to assign the IP address, select the Unassigned option. In this case, the IP address remains free and can be assigned to a server at a later time.
5. Optional: To create a Reverse DNS, click Showin the Show other settings section. Then enter the desired Reverse DNS.
6. Click Create.

IP Configuration

1. Click Start Button
2. Click Run
3. Type CMD
4. Type ipconfig
5. Type Ping [IP Address]
